Also, we had Cole playing the trumpet joining Dale on guitar. Lastly, the choirs sang “Because He Lives, I Can Face Tomorrow.”
Sermon:
Pastor continued his Easter break from the Sermon on the Mount series, Jesus’ proclamation of the arrival of the Kingdom of God with a message titled “Ramifications of the Resurrection,” a message based those passages in scripture that speak to the power of the resurrection in our lives. Pastor selected Romans 1:1-4, Ephesians 1:19-20 and Philippians 3:11 and 3:21.
Firstly, Pastor preached on the resurrection as a declaration of Christ’s deity; it validated his claims to be God. Moreover, and perhaps more important to us, it validates His cross, the work he did there for us. His resurrection is proof that God accepted his work in atoning for sin.
Besides, illustrating Christ’s deity, the resurrection is a guarantee of our victory. In Ephesians 1:19-20, Paul explains the immeasurable power God showed through the resurrection to those of us who believe in Him. Those verses describe that power and help us understand why we want to harness that power while we are weak flesh here on earth to live successfully in the Kingdom. It is available to us all. Let’s make sure we don’t neglect this gift from our savior.
Lastly, Pastor asked us to consider the resurrection as our destiny through reference to Philippians 3. We can be certain about our destiny, that we will rise again like Christ because He rose. And, we can look forward to the change that will take place in us at the rapture when we receive new heavenly bodies. Pastor thought this was well illustrated by Benjamin Franklin, the epitaph on his tombstone:
“The Body of B. Franklin, Printer; like the Cover of an old Book, Its Contents torn out, And stript of its Lettering and Gilding, Lies here, Food for Worms. But the Work shall not be wholly lost; For it will, as he believ’d, appear once more, In a new & more perfect Edition, Corrected and amended By the Author.”
What a beautiful way to describe what we have to look forward to in our destiny, the power of God at work in us in life and death. Let us hold on to this power in the coming days to do well in Jesus.
