Special:

Pastor described the offering for Ukraine the church will take up next Sunday. He determined the best way to help Ukraine was through a gift to the Baptist International Evangelistic Ministries, a ministry run by the son of a Ukrainian whom Pastor personally knew. During service, we watched a video report of relief efforts conducted by this ministry in Ukraine. You can find these video reports here: BIEM Ukraine Videos Here is a representative video:

Sermon:

Today Pastor returned to the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus’ proclamation of the arrival of the Kingdom of God with a message titled “Determining Our Values,” on Matthew 6:19-24 where Jesus admonishes us to store up treasure in heaven. Pastor addressed this topic in three ways.

Firstly, Pastor explained Jesus’s approach to determining value, examining what we hold valuable. We can do this through location, thinking what is valuable here, and what is valuable in Heaven. We can also think about the duration of our valuables. Are we accumulating valuables that are beyond the reach of earthly decay? Lastly for this section, he advised that we can figure out our valuables by looking at our affections. Our hearts, our desires, tell us what is valuable.

In line with Jesus’s instruction, Pastor spelled out how we can determine our valuables by examining our vision. Do we have a heavenly vision that enables us to see clearly? Are we investing in the eternal, people, their salvation and growth? If we don’t see things from a heavenly perspective, we inevitably see them from a worldly or earthly perspective. A story Pastor outline perfectly illustrates this point.  If you have given everything for the kingdom on earth, you have not fear of death. But, if you are a rich miser, all you think about in death is leaving your treasure behind. Your earthly perspective is crippling as you age.

In conclusion, Pastor reminded us that our best way to determine value is by choosing wisely, choosing our Sovereign Jesus, and choosing to serve Him. Is He the Lord of your life? As Jesus stated, we cannot serve two masters. We can serve two employers, but not two masters. So let’s choose well, choose Jesus, serve Him, and He will empower us to do well in His Kingdom.
