Bible Verse for Sunday Service December 29, 2024
Proverbs 3:5-10
Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
and do not lean on your own understanding.
In all your ways acknowledge him,
and he will make straight your paths.
Be not wise in your own eyes;
fear the Lord, and turn away from evil.
It will be healing to your flesh
and refreshment to your bones.
Honor the Lord with your wealth
and with the firstfruits of all your produce;
then your barns will be filled with plenty,
and your vats will be bursting with wine.

We encourage everyone to read through the Bible in a year. Schedules for that are on the back table, a variety of plans.
Jeff and Shelly Kessler, our AWANA missionaries sent us a Christmas letter and card and it is on the missionary bulletin board located by the foyer door.
Sermon:
To give us a good start for the new year, Pastor Jim preached on Proverbs 3:5-10 in a sermon he titled “God’s Wisdom for Our Concerns.” Life is full of surprises, some unpleasant, like the pheasant that flew into Pastor’s face in the story he related to start his sermon. So it would be best to have all the wisdom we can have to face it. Pastor saw three areas we could benefit from reviewing God’s wisdom for our lives that he explored in today’s sermon.
Firstly, Pastor looked at wisdom regarding our decisions. He saw two keys to this. God requires us to be dependent on Him. Many verses from the Bible support this, not just the selected verses from Proverbs. Once we develop this dependent relationship, we can enjoy God’s direction for our life, making good decisions.
After developing that dependent relationship, Pastor talked about what concerns many people, God’s wisdom for their health. Here Pastor sought to remind us that while we can seek God’s guidance here, that guidance is never going to deliver certainty. Health like prosperity is not a guarantee. But, if we have a reverence for God, we will generally live a healthier life. Out of our reverence, God will help us with an inner strength. Perhaps the best example of this comes from the book of Job.
Lastly, Pastor talked about wisdom for our finances. Here, it is not hard to see what we need to do, we must make giving a priority. If we do so then we will receive God’s provision.
To conclude, Pastor asked us to synthesize all these into one. If we trust God with these three things, we will do the right thing, the thing that God requires in making decisions. We have a good God, let us trust Him.
