When iniquities prevail against me,
you atone for our transgressions.
Announcements:
Deacon’s meeting on February 22 to consider some of the things that were brought up in the annual meeting as possible projects for the coming year, kitchen updating, striping the parking lot, and sound insulation in the fellowship hall.
The church purchased an AED and training in its use. Terri Wofford will teach the class on Monday afternoon, March 11. Each trainee completes an online course prior to attending the skills and practice session.
On March 23, we will once again host the AWANA Grand Prix, which is a fun day of racing cars that the Awana kids make. Beside being fun, it is a great outreach to families, and a good opportunity for involving parents in a project with their children. We run the races in the morning and serve lunch as noon. Please volunteer to help set up the track, run the race, and serve lunch. Let us know if you can help. Car kits are available for $10 each. Any child, attendees at Awana or not, may participate.
Nancy Burns is our missionary to the deaf in Peru. She recently sent a letter describing some of the highlights of the ministry and her current needs, including a meeting place for the their in Church in Chiclayo, Peru.
Men’s fellowship: Several people have expressed an interest in a time of fellowship/prayer/Bible study for men. Please let Pastor Jim know if you are interested, and some ideas for a time that would work best.
Sermon:
Pastor Jim preached today from Hebrews 11:4-7 in a sermon he titled “Faith before the Flood.” Faith, what is it? Pastor told a story about how you can see faith, people jumping out of airplanes. These people have faith that their parachutes are going to open. What can we learn by reviewing the faith of the Old Testament’s saints? A lot according to the author of Hebrews as the great faith chapter recites the faith of them. Pastor covered three saints in his sermon.
To start, Pastor asked us to look at the faith of Abel, a faith he characterized as demonstrating how to be right with God. By comparison to his brother, Cain, Abel’s faith is evident as both brothers have one need as they are both sinners. They both need to deal with their sin. Both offer sacrifices, but only one was accepted, that of Abel. He had faith that God was serious about what was required for the sacrifice, and was obedient to God’s instruction. Cain for his part, ignored God’s instruction and believed he could determine what was acceptable. On failing he punished his brother for him being acceptable to God.
Next Pastor reviewed Enoch’s faith, a man who knew how to please God. He was taken directly up to heaven. His transfer to heaven is a prelude to the rapture, being with God while alive, no death before transfer. His testimony, his life brought this transfer. He pleased God. Starting with his faith, he diligently sought God all day long. Pastor reminded us that if we miss in, we mustn’t hide from God, he wants us back.
Briefly, Pastor covered Noah’s faith, a faith that allowed him to be used of God. Noah believed God’s word about the impending flood, so he built the work, the ark, according to God’s instructions.
In closing, Pastor asked us check our faith. Are we right with God? Let’s check and fix, do our part, if necessary.
