Announcements:

Steve’s first item was today’s business meeting right after service. The church agreed to send donations to our missionaries, and to make one time donations to ACTS International, Outreach to Asian Nationals, and Heart Cry Ministry.

Peacemakers’ annual conference runs August 18-21. This conference will help equip you to be a peacemaker in all aspects of your life, not just in church.  This important ministry develops Christians’ relationship skills, including conflict resolution. The conference is held at the Double Tree in Billings. If you want to learn more about the Peacemaker ministries, you can go to rw360.org. The domain name stands for a 360 degree view, an all round view of Relational Wisdom. You can find information on the annual conference here.

Awana begins on September 14. Please pray regarding whether you should help with this ministry. To get everything prepared for the opening, we will have a leaders meeting August 31st.

Greeter schedules are on the foyer table. We appreciate all who serve in this ministry. Be sure to pick up the new schedule for the next three months.

A “Meal Train” has been setup for the Witschis. You can sign up to provide a meal here. If you are baffled by technology, please let Gaylene know and she will sign up for you.

Lastly, Jimmy Sutton blessed us with Onions and Garlic

Sermon:

In line with the church business meeting theme today, Pastor preached a message entitled “The Church’s Essential Mission” based on Acts 1:6-11. Introducing this important topic Pastor had a great story about a Pastor’s child perspective on missionaries. The child explained the pastor provided hospitality to missionaries and sent them on their way. This sentiment is exactly what perhaps the most famous of missionaries told his friend Andrew Fuller. Before departing for India, William Carey stated “I will go down into the pit, if you will hold the ropes.” With that idea, Pastor had three points in his sermon.

Firstly, the church’s essential mission involves a task, to be witnesses. What is the scope of this witness? Geographically, we are to be witnesses to the whole world.

Next, Pastor asked up to consider that the church’s essential mission includes the power for that mission. Our Lord provides the power to us to serve in missions. He does this by giving us the ability and the desire. Additionally, some have the gift of evangelism. The Lord also provides the power to save those whom He sends on missions.

Lastly, Pastor reminded us that we are invested with time that has two aspects. Our time is set by God. We don’t know how much time we have. Therefore we should use the time we have well. We, the people in the Kingdom of God, should use our time to gather citizens for His Kingdom.

Pastor ended the sermon by telling us that when he came to the church eighteen years ago, it had no missionary program. The church’s first missionaries were the Moosebruggers who retired a while ago. So we should purpose to give, to pray and is so called to “hold the ropes.”
