Campus Ministry Presentation – Next Sunday: Malachi Warneke anticipates beginning a full-time ministry working with students at Montana Tech in Butte. As students there, Malachi and Madison (Orelup) have been active in serving in their campus ministry. But now that Malachi has graduated, he is taking the next year to serve the campus ministry, full time. His interest is in discipling  students. You will also have the opportunity to support him financially with a special offering gift.

Your gift will be used to fund the services offered by LaVie, which assist women facing unplanned pregnancies. Use the bottle for your gift, and then bring it back and place it in the bag anytime by Father’s Day.

Days of Praise Devotional: On the foyer table now you can pick up the June through August Days of Praise devotional booklets, the back table.

Sermon:

Moving on with the next of the seven churches of Revelation 2, Pastor Jim spoke to us on Revelation 2:12-17 in a sermon titled “Consideration to Counter Compromise.” In this section of scripture, Christ is addressing the church in Pergamum. He continues his pattern of first commending the church, finding here the members hold fast to his name. But, in his criticism, he points out the heresies, particularly that of the Nicolaitans. Pastor used his sermon to warn us of the dangers of compromise with what we know to be false. He did so in two points.

Beginning with asking us to consider what Christ knows, He expanded on Christ’s warning. Christ illustrated he knew all about where the residents of Pergamum live, the conditions. It is the same for us. We must not forget that. Christ reminded the residents that they lived in place esteemed by man, but used by Satan. It is much the same all over in the Western world today. But, understanding this helps us know what we face. We may see people persecuting us, but what is driving them, Satan. Moreover, the resistance we face in how we live our lives shows us the side we are on. If we are perhaps facing no resistance, what are we doing for Christ. Perhaps more important to Christ is what we tolerate. That was the problem for the people in Pergamum. Pastor asked is it a problem for us. We should counter the tendency to compromise, especially with something we know to be evil.

Now, after the bad news of difficult circumstances in the world, we can turn to the good news by considering what Christ has. Our text offers three distinct possessions of his, all of which should encourage us. Christ has a sword, and not just any sword, but the ultimate weapon to vanquish the spiritual enemies. He also has hidden manna to sustain us, to strengthen us for our battle. Lastly, and definitely most interesting to Pastor, a white stone with a new name. What is that? No one this side of heaven knows. But, He will meet us at the end of our battle here on earth with it as part of our reward.

To conclude, Pastor admonished us not to compromise with what we know to be wrong, and to pray for wisdom so we know when to hold on.
