Announcements:
This summer June 10-14, 9:00 – 11:45 AM, in our VBS we will be going on a “Great Jungle Journey.” Children will go on a jungle cruise with seven ports of call. At each port, they will learn about a biblical event that has shaped our world, and can determine our eternal destiny. Each day features music, games, crafts, refreshments, Bible memory and an exciting Bible lesson each day. Be sure your children attend each day and bring their friends with them. Fliers and registration information are available on the foyer table.
We will be doing our final VBS decorating next Sunday after church, and welcome anyone who can help. We will have chili and grill dogs for lunch. Please bring a salad or dessert to go with it.
LaVie’s Baby bottle campaign will run again this year from May 12th through June 16th. We can support LaVie in its work at its clinic providing compassionate medical care for early pregnancies. Funds donated during this Spring campaign go to assisting women with unplanned pregnancies through education and services. All of this is life affirming. We will host the baby bottles in which you can place your donation.
Beginning today, we will provide a nursery for young children up through kindergarten. We have four nursery workers committed to serve, but if you would like to help, please contact Gaylene.
Our ladies who meet on Tuesday for Bible study decided to take a break for the summer, but they will resume in the fall.
Sermon:
Speaking again on Hebrews, Pastor Jim preached on Hebrews 12:18-29 in a sermon he titled “Come to the Mountain.” Which mountain? Two mountains along with what they represent are described in this section of Hebrews. Mount Sinai is a stand in for the law and our inability to follow the law to be reconciled to God. Mount Zion is our mountain of grace and promise. Through Jesus we are reconciled to God, and can count on a heavenly future. Pastor covered these ideas in two points, focusing on Mount Zion, our promise and grace.
To begin, pastor remarked that Mount Zion is an inhabited mountain. We can access it unlike Mount Sinai. It is accessible to us, or open to all who chose to come through Jesus. Another way of looking at this is to say that Mount Zion is a mountain that celebrates the Savior. In heaven, Mt. Zion, the Savior is a lamb upon His throne.
Mount Zion is also an unshakeable mountain in contrast to this world. We are regularly shaken here with events controlled by Satan, the things of this world. But us citizens of the Kingdom. We are safe. Thinking over these things, we are reminded to have a heavenly or Kingdom perspective. Let’s hold this idea close for our week in the world.
