Bible Verse for Sunday Service June 08, 2025
Revelation 2:18-20
And to the angel of the church in Thyatira write: The words of the Son of God, who has eyes like a flame of fire, and whose feet are like burnished bronze.
I know your works, your love and faith and service and patient endurance, and that your latter works exceed the first. But I have this against you, that you tolerate that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess and is teaching and seducing my servants to practice sexual immorality and to eat food sacrificed to idols.

Sermon:
Moving on with the next of the seven churches of Revelation 2, the one at Thyatira, Pastor Jim spoke to us on Revelation 2:18-29 in a sermon titled “A Blue Collar Town with a Mixed Up Church.” Pastor first brought Lydia the seller of purple dye that Paul meets in Acts. She was from Thyatira. Next Pastor compared that town to a cow town like Billings. He discussed how Thyatira was mixed up in three points.
As usual in this series on the churches in Revelation, Jesus starts by commending the church on its works, and how now those works exceeded what the church did at its beginning. However, Jesus evaluation was mixed. Yes, that church had proof of its good works that spoke to its love proved by service. But, it also had the problem of the bad, false doctrine taught there. Perhaps nothing shows the problem more than that Jesus compares the teacher there to Jezebel from 1 Kings.
Consequently, Jesus delivered a stern warning to the church. He had provided time to her to repent of her sins and false teaching, but she refused. Consequently, Jesus judges evil and sin. He had a plan for her death on her bed. After ridding the church of a corrupting influence, he went to exhort the church.
As the last part of his message Pastor noted that Jesus gave a needed exhortation to the church, hold fast now. Not to salvation, that is assured, but to faithfulness in God’s plan. Such faithfulness now leads to us to have authority in Heaven later.
For our concluding thought, Pastor closed with Jude 3, let us contend for the faith without being contentious, have truth with love.
