We look forward to an exciting week of ministering to children. The theme is built around the truth of the battle between Christ’s Kingdom of light and the kingdom of darkness which we must face and do battle with. The kids will learn how they can be part of God’s Kingdom through salvation in Christ and be equipped with the armor of God to become Keepers of the Kingdom who stand strong in today’s battle for truth.VBS runs from 9AM to 11:45AM.
La Vie’s Baby Bottle Campaign, themed this year as “Change for Hope” runs from May 14 (Mother’s Day) through June 18 (Father’s Day). You can give online, but we will place a large baby bottle in the foyer where you can place your gift. The La Vie pregnancy center provides free and low-cost services to the women in our community. La Vie’s mission is “To empower individuals to embrace hope by providing loving, compassionate care for those facing unplanned pregnancies.”
Sermon:
Working in Luke, Pastor spoke to us on Luke 9:18-27, “The Cross and the Christian.” In this scripture, Luke covers a lot of ground, Peter’s confession of Christ, Jesus explaining he will die, and Jesus requiring us to take up our cross on a a daily basis. Pastor addressed these revelations in two main points after explaining the centrality of the cross, and asking what does it communicate to us.
Firstly, Pastor asked us to consider His question about His person, who do people say I am? For us, Pastor reminded us that a personal belief in Him must be a conviction not an opinion, for the Bible contains many promises about Him. Besides having a belief that belief must be shared, not hidden.
For his second point, Pastor asked us to look at Jesus’ declaration of His crucifixion, the necessity of it. Again in several passages, Isaiah 53 and Psalm 22, the Bible makes clear that Jesus would experience such a death. But, besides being necessary to bring about atonement for us, it is necessary for us to understand the model; we must take up our cross daily and walk, just like Jesus did. In doing this, we must not be hesitant, freely putting our selfish nature to death. Only by doing this will we be truly joyful.
