Bible Verses for Sunday Service March 27, 2022

James 1:5

 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.

Psalm 119:104-105

Through your precepts I get understanding;
    therefore I hate every false way.

Your word is a lamp to my feet
    and a light to my path.

Announcements:

It finally arrived, the AWANA Grand Prix. Thank you to all who helped. Everyone, kids who participated and those that cheered had a fun time. Pastor recognized the people who helped at the Sunday service. A public thank you is always good. All good and great things must come to an end and so it is with AWANA 2021. Our awards night is April 6th at the regular AWANA time. We recognize the kids in working on their handbooks, learning about Jesus and His Kingdom. We also recognize the leaders. But, in all things we give thanks to the Lord for this ministry.  Easter is soon upon us, and the church plans an Easter Breakfast on April 17th at 9:30AM. Invite your family and friends. If you are coming, be sure to sign up to bring something. Gaylene let us know that on April 23th, a change of date, the church ladies will be hosting a bridal shower for Mae, a salad luncheon. Please sign up to bring a salad. Also, bring your favorite recipe to give to Mae. Mae Lindstrom and Jonathan Helberg have invited the church to attend their wedding on May 28th in Williston. You can find the details in the bulletin board in the foyer. Lastly, please see the corrections in today’s bulletin for the church directory.

Sermon:

Pastor continued his review of the Sermon on the Mount in Matthew 6:5-9, Jesus’ proclamation of the arrival of the Kingdom of God with a message titled “Solutions to Prayer Problems.” In these verses Jesus teaches about prayer. Pastor explained Jesus instructions in this passage.

To begin, Pastor challenged us as to whether we always had an appetite for prayer. Put another way, do we always find time for prayer the way the average person always finds time for the things that matter to them? Alternatively, do we have an appetite for righteousness, pursuing prayer being one aspect of that.

In expounding on this, Pastor gave us some instruction on prayer. We are to make it a private conversation, just between God and us. Also we are to make it personal. How can we do this, while we don’t want to get stuck in wrote prayers, we can make it personal to us, develop our style of praying, and our times when we chose to focus on the Lord through prayer.

Another aspect of praying well is to make prayer a meaningful conversation withe Lord. This is possible on our part because of God’s qualities. He notices us in noticing and being in control of the whole universe. Besides noticing us, He knows us because He knows everything. With His love for us, He always invites us in to fellowship with Him. Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, it is He who enables us. In other words, Christianity and the doctrine of the Kingdom of God particularly isn’t about pulling oneself up by your own bootstraps, or working harder. It is about coming to the end of yourself and accepting Him as our Savior who will provide what we need, everything to do well in the Kingdom.

In closing, Pastor reminded us of a famous quote by Billy Graham “Heaven is full of answers to prayer for which no one ever bothered to ask.” Let’s not short ourselves or God by failing to come to the Lord in prayer and lay all of our praises, worship and concerns in front of Him.
