Service May 11, 2025 – Mother’s Day

Bible Verse for Sunday Service May 11, 2025

Proverbs 31:29-30

Many women have done excellently,
but you surpass them all.
Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain,
but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.

Special May 11, 2025 Mother’s Day:

For several weeks, Bree Hofer worked with the children during service to create a special for Mother’s Day. She also solicited photographs of mothers with their children. Today, we saw the fruit of that work. Service opened with a wonderful special, the children from the the church singing while we watched the slide show. What a treat. I apologize for not getting the production centered at the start. You can see this at Rumble, or watch it below:

Sermon:

For Mother’s Day, Pastor gave a topical sermon in honor of the mothers. He preached on Proverbs 31:29-30 in a sermon titled “Contrasting Mothers.” To set the stage for his sermon, Pastor introduced the idea of skills in living life. Wisdom could be considered a skill to become successful. An example of another skill that helps with living life would be relations skills to get along well with others. It is obvious skills are needed to do well in life. So, where are they found? In the Bible. To transition to the applicability to our mothers, Pastor asked us to consider a construction project. That project would entail an architect to provide a blue print, the construction to build the building. Pastor explored his analogy in two points.

Firstly, taking his topic from the Bible, Pastor observed that a wise woman builds her house, her home. From his analogy, in building, the architect is God, and the blueprint is the Bible. The mother is the builder. The foundation for this house is laid through adherence to Biblical principles. This idea is echoed in the New Testament where Jesus instructs the wise to build on solid rock, not sand.

To extend this analogy, what materials would a wise women use? Further Bible quotes provide the answer. By wisdom a house is built, and also by understanding and knowledge. To succeed then a mother finds that good source of knowledge and counsel.

Elaborating on this first point, Pastor pointed out that all of this work, hard work. A good wife is therefore a hard and noble worker. Pastor remarked it is certainly hard work to raise a family. To succeed then, make sure you are following God’s Plan

In his second point, Pastor contrasted the wise mother with a foolish one, one who destroys her house. For an illustration, Pastor used an unusual example, the Ostrich. The mother bird lays her eggs in the sand, and doesn’t protect them like other birds. Consequently, the eggs maybe destroyed by predators, or even simply destroyed by accident.

In failed homes with mothers, Pastor observed a tragic tendency of neglect. Usually in these broken or non-functional homes, you see some essential aspects of family life neglected. Sometimes this takes the form of rules, perhaps harsh without relationship. Generally, this results in rebellion. Our time as parents is fleeting. Pastor admonished us not to neglect our family.

To conclude, Pastor reminded us to think about these words. Would we purpose to support our family by putting the Lord first? We should purpose to build our homes on His plan?
