Bible Verses for Sunday Service May 15, 2022

Mark 10:45

For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.

Hosea 10:12

Sow for yourselves righteousness;
reap steadfast love;
break up your fallow ground,
for it is the time to seek the Lord,
that he may come and rain righteousness upon you.

Sermon:

Today Pastor continued in the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus’ proclamation of the arrival of the Kingdom of God with a message titled “The Fourth R – Relationships” on Matthew 7:1-6, 12 where Jesus admonishes against judging others and providing unsolicited advice. Pastor addressed this topic in three ways. To firstly provide context on the importance of Jesus instruction, Pastor asked us to consider Job and his friends. At first those friends just sat in silence with Job, but then they started to offer advice that was not relevant nor well-received. So Jesus desires us to not just get along with others, but to really help them too.

Firstly,  Pastor explained Jesus want us to look at who needs the help. In considering that person it is futile to be judgmental. Instead, we should be self judgmental, the log in our own eye.

Second, Pastor advised us to consider the person who does not want help. In other words, look at Jesus’s concern over us inflicting our ideas, our solutions, our pearls on the other person. We need to consider a person’s inability to utilize what we have to offer. We need to do this because no one wants to experience that other person’s animosity. The key in this is our sensitivity. Pastor illustrated this by reminding us that the latch on the heart of an unbeliever is on the inside. No one can force there way in. We have to be invited.

Lastly, Pastor reminded us that Jesus tied this all together in the positive version fo the “Golden Rule.” We should do for others as we wish they do for us, as this summarizes all of the Old Testament writings truly understood. So let’s all do our best, assisted by the Holy Spirit to put this into practice in our lives.
