Bible Verse for Sunday Service Service May 12, 2024
Psalm 37:23-24
The Lord directs the steps of the godly.
He delights in every detail of their lives.
Though they stumble, they will never fall,
for the Lord holds them by the hand.

LaVie’s Baby bottle campaign will run again this year from May 12th through June 16th. We can support LaVie in its work at its clinic providing compassionate medical care for early pregnancies. Funds donated during this Spring campaign go to assisting women with unplanned pregnancies through education and services. All of this is life affirming. We will host the baby bottles in which you can place your donation.
Shepherd Bible Church Special May 12, 24 “Just a Little Talk with Jesus”
Today, we were blessed by the quartet of the Millers and Weschenfelders singing “Just a little walk with Jesus.” This song was written by Cleavant Derricks and is likely based on two songs of unknown origins. If you are interested in learning more about its history, you can learn about it here. All the congregation enjoyed this reminder of Jesus on Mother’s day.
Sermon:
Taking a break from his series in Hebrews, Pastor Jim switched to Psalms to remind us about God’s role in creation from Psalm 139:13-18 in a sermon he titled “The Marvel inside a Mother.” On this Mother’s Day, Pastor wanted to remind us that becoming a mother is a testimony to the glory of God. He explored these verses in two points.
To begin, Pastor reminded us that we are a work of God. He created us. We should marvel at his handiwork in the baby. His role is clear in the Psalms where we are told His hands made us and to know He is God. For sure our births are natural biological processes, but processes which were brought into being by Him. His work is also described in this Psalm and others. His role in knitting everything together perfectly, including providing His spirit reminds us that we are created in His image for a relationship with Him. Lastly under this point, His work is finalized. He has a plan for our lives.
Also, we should consider our obligation to God. We should recognize Him as creator. We can rejoice in Him accepting us as we are. Under this heading of obligation, we should protect the life he has created. It is sad today to see how prevalent abortion has become. All that life destroyed. We should think on this, and consider it our obligation to resolve this to the extent we can in our voting choices, and our giving choices. To conclude this point, we should also expect him to fulfill His plans for us. Someday we will die when that plan is over, but we will see him and our parents that died in Christ. So let us think on God’s role in everything to do with this day on which we honor mothers.
