Bible Verse for Sunday Service Service May 26, 2024
Romans 5:7
For one will scarcely die for a righteous person—though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die—
Announcements:
Preschool children’s church will start next Sunday. At the conclusion of the song service kindergarten and younger children will be dismissed to go back to the nursery for a time of children’s church. We offer this for families with young children for the summer. In the fall, we will reevaluate whether we will have children’s church for older children. In the bulletin, we provide a children’s page for older children to use during the preaching service. If a child completes four pages, we will reward with a gift card. Children are always welcome at Sunday school at 9:30AM in the fellowship hall.
This summer in VBS we will be going on a “Great Jungle Journey.” As usual, we will need adult and teen volunteers. We set the dates as June 10-14, beginning each day at 9AM. If you can help in any way, let us know by filling out the insert in today’s bulletin and leaving it on the foyer table or giving it to Natasha or Pastor. We are having an organizational meeting for everyone on May 22 at 6:30PM. This is the only planned meeting, so anyone planning on helping, please attend.
LaVie’s Baby bottle campaign will run again this year from May 12th through June 16th. We can support LaVie in its work at its clinic providing compassionate medical care for early pregnancies. Funds donated during this Spring campaign go to assisting women with unplanned pregnancies through education and services. All of this is life affirming. We will host the baby bottles in which you can place your donation.
Sermon:
Continuing in Hebrews, Pastor Jim preached on Hebrews 12:12-17 in a sermon he titled “Dealing with Tiredness.” This section of scripture begins with therefore so it is application. Having read all the success provided by God to our heroes of the faith in chapter 11, what now? In a nutshell, don’t be tired. Pastor explored this in two points, connecting physical tiredness to spiritual tiredness.
Pastor first advised us to be wary of tiredness in our race, our walk with the Lord here on earth. We can strengthen our pace in our walk to keep up. Our best hope for success here is asking the Lord for help like David did through most of his life. We can also remember Paul’s encouragement in Ephesians to be strong in the Lord. Another way to think about this is to think of our path through life. We could ask the Lord to help us by straightening our path for us.
Next, pastor advised on tiredness from our relationships. We should seek peace in our walk with others. This can be a challenge, perhaps especially with everyone, even family members. But, pastor reminded us of the admonition in Romans about as far as it depends on us. We need to do our part. But besides living in peace with others, we must remember our relationship with Lord. There, we must walk in holiness with Him.
If we can take these steps to avoid tiredness in our daily lives and in our relationships, we can walk well for the Lord, and be effective agents in the Kingdom of God. Let’s aspire to do well in Him.
