Sermon:
Today, Pastor Jim took a break from Luke and spoke to us on Dan 12:1-3 in a sermon titled “The Time of the End.” He spoke on the end times events, including Christ’s return, the rapture and what comes after, the tribulation. How should we think about the promise of Christ’s return? Pastor covered this in three points.
Firstly, Pastor encouraged us to think of this time in Church history as a rescue. We will be rescued from the awful times ahead for those left on earth after the rapture of believers. Specifically, we will be rescued from war against Christ, and the associated atrocities. While we are rescued, we should remember what brings about our rescue, our faith in Christ and his atoning work on the cross.
After Christ’s return, we can also look forward to the resurrection of the old testament saints, and all those believing in Christ who have died before His return. This aspect of the end times is described as an awakening. All the dead in Christ will awaken to a new body, a glorified one, completing our salvation. Another way of thinking about this resurrection is how all encompassing it is. Not only will the dead in Christ raise to His praise, but non-believers will be raised to judgment.
Lastly, Pastor asked us think about what that time might look like, radiance. When raised, we will shine like the stars in heaven. We will shine like lights then, but we could do more now to shine our light, the light that he provides in the darkness here. Part of doing that is standing with God’s people Israel during this difficult time.
