Sermon:
In honor of the birth of Our Savior, Pastor started a series Luke 1, beginning this Sunday with a “Doctor’s Diagnosis. Pastor noted that Luke wrote two New Testament Books, Luke and Acts and wrote them to two men, Theophilus and Zacharias. Through these stories we can learn to deal with doubt and disappointment. To illustrate this Pastor told of a man with a broken finger to claimed everything he touched hurt. By his correct diagnosis, the truth, and calmed his fears, which is of course what Luke did. He provided a diagnosis to his friends on what was true, Jesus.
Throughout Luke’s book he emphasized the careful study of all the facts he could find, just like a doctor would. Is it any surprise then that God chose this book to be included in Scripture? God must have inspired Luke to write this piece of scripture. As the inspired word of Lord, this scripture, Luke’s personal account of his research into Jesus is given to us by God to help us understand Him and what he wants from us, that we would put our trust in His Son.
Now in what Luke describes first, the Zacharias and Elizabeth’s expectations for their lives, God has a bigger plan and Luke discusses that too, the significance of their child to Israel and all the world, a redeemer. We always need to be mindful that we can comfortably place our hope in Jesus despite our disappointments, God is in control. And that means that are prayers to Him are heard and answered in God’s time and in His way.
Pastor concluded the sermon by summing up for the two people introduced at the beginning, Theophilus and Zacharias. One may have been dealing with doubt, the other disappointment. But, the doctor’s orders given then that apply today too are follow Him and bring our concerns to the cross.
