Bible Verse for Sunday Service September 26, 2021
Lamentations 3:25-26
The Lord is good to those who wait for him,
to the soul who seeks him.
It is good that one should wait quietly
for the salvation of the Lord.
For the announcements, Steve let us know that Pastor scheduled the Quarterly Pot Luck and Business Meeting for October 10, right after the church service. Also, someone wants to be baptized, to be scheduled soon. Does anyone else wish to be baptized? Please contact Pastor Jim. One of Marie McFate’s ministry to the church was to get all the items that the AWANA children pack in Christmas boxes for Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child. We are attempting to replace her by posting a list of needed items and requesting church members bring those items. Please help out if you are able.
Pastor Jim covered Colossians 2:16-23, Beware of Substitutions in today’s message. In addition to describing Christ’s perfection, Pastor went over why we should accept no substitutes, and no additions, Christ plus something. Notably, Pastor covered a heresy that existed within the Colossian church, that of Judaizers who believed that angels had told them, given them private visions, that the only way to be true Christ follower was to accept the gospel, and also to keep the Jewish ceremonial law.
We were reminded that this boast, an angel told me something private and special from God is a common heresy, including the founder of the Mormons. It is easy to understand why Paul in Galatians (1:8) admonishes us not to believe anyone with a different gospel: But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach to you a gospel contrary to the one we preached to you, let him be accursed.
It is no longer something new, but a continuing feature. Here is the bulletin, click on the images to see them full size:
