Service September 5th, 2021 – Labor Day Weekend

Bible Verse for Sunday Service September 5h, 2021

Psalm 30:11-12

You have turned for me my mourning into dancing;
you have loosed my sackcloth
and clothed me with gladness,
that my glory may sing your praise and not be silent.
O Lord my God, I will give thanks to you forever!

Some were gone for the Labor Day weekend, but many members of the congregation turned out for today’s service. But, we had the pleasure of Cole here and playing the trumpet for worship. It is so nice to see father and son leading us in worship together, and playing so well. Steve reminded us again about Awana starting on the September 15th, and the need for cookies.

Pastor Jim is preaching his way through the book of Colossians, and covered Colossians 1:24-29 this service. That section of scripture contains one of scripture’s more challenging verses, Colossians 1:24 about “filling up what is lacking in Christ’s afflictions for sake of his body, that is, the church.” Pastor explained those opposed to Christ are never satisfied, not even after crucifying him. They still want to inflict injury on Him. So these people turn their hatred on those who preach the gospel like Paul. In this sense the persecutors are getting there fill of inflicting punishment on Christ’s own versus Christ.

As usual on the first Sunday of the month, we celebrated communion, sharing the elements of bread and juice in memory of Christ as Jesus instructed we do at the Last Supper.
